Practice interventions through structured exercises.
Reflect on how Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy supports multicultural couples navigating stress and trauma.
Mental health professionals interested in evidence-based, culturally responsive couple therapy.
This advanced EFT workshop focuses on bridging cultural differences and using EFT to help clients overcome emotional barriers shaped by systemic stress, racism, and cultural identity.

Dr. Paul T. Guillory, is a licensed clinical psychologist, ICEEFT Certified Trainer and Supervisor with over 30 years of clinical experience. He offers a uniquely rich and inclusive approach to Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy (EFCT) training, combining depth in EFT with a lifelong commitment to cultural humility and multicultural awareness.
Trained directly by EFT founder Dr. Sue Johnson, Dr. Guillory has taught and supervised therapists across the country and internationally. His advanced knowledge of EFCT is complemented by a deep background in attachment theory, grief and loss, and the impact of racial and cultural identity on emotional well-being.
Dr. Guillory is the author of Emotionally Focused Therapy with African American Couples: Love Heals—the first book to center the experiences of Black couples through the lens of EFT. While the book focuses on African American couples, Dr. Guillory’s broader clinical and training focus addresses the complex multicultural realities that shape emotional distress and healing across all racial, ethnic, and cultural groups.
His work equips therapists to recognize and respond to the additional relational stressors faced by multicultural clients, including systemic oppression, historical trauma, and cultural disconnection. Through his trainings, therapists learn how to apply EFCT with cultural sensitivity and confidence—building stronger therapeutic alliances and deeper emotional engagement.
Dr. Guillory has served on the board of the Northern California Chapter of the Association of Black Psychologists and has published extensively on topics including grief, attachment, and racial identity. His integrative and reflective teaching style helps therapists internalize EFCT principles while expanding their awareness of how identity, history, and culture impact relationships.
