This EFT Training explores the intersection of Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and the complex realities of multiculturalism. While EFT has demonstrated international relevance, its application within diverse cultural contexts requires deeper examination. This training moves beyond a simplistic understanding of cultural differences in attachment and emotional expression, delving into the significant impact of multicultural realities on psychological, interpersonal, and physical health.
Many societies are multicultural, yet this reality is often under-considered in psychotherapy models. While EFT focuses on universal human experiences like attachment and emotion, cultural variations and, more importantly, the dynamics of dominant and minority cultural interactions within a country, significantly influence individual and relational well-being. These multicultural realities create unique stressors, coping strategies, and joys that are often overlooked in traditional clinical training. Furthermore, discussions around these topics can evoke strong emotional reactions, making effective training crucial.
This training will examine internalized stress and cultural alienation from a multicultural perspective. Participants will explore how to integrate EFT with the dynamic realities of multiculturalism, moving beyond simply acknowledging cultural differences to addressing the specific challenges and opportunities they present. Through case reviews, demonstrations, and discussions, participants will learn how to apply EFT in individual, couple, and family therapy, addressing suffering rooted in multicultural distress.
